Chiang Rai General Presentation

Chiang Rai: A Home of Culturally Creative Minds and Nature Lovers transforming into a Sustainable City by Service Design.

Boasting rich cultural diversity and heritage, Chiang Rai, the northernmost city in Thailand, has transformed from a capital of the ancient Mangrai Dynasty to an artistic, dynamic and vibrant border city through service design.

The golden Clock Tower in downtown Chiang Rai designed by master artist Chalermchai Kositpipat redefines Chiang Rai as the City of Arts. His other masterpiece Wat Rong Khun and master artist Thawan Duchanee’s Black House are the must-see attractions. Neo-Lanna arts can also be found in all aspects of the city be it street lighting, bridges, government buildings, universities, hotels, and restaurants. The service design also allows a transformation of many plantation sites for coffee and tea like Doi Tung and Doi Chang mountains, Chui Fong estate, and Singha Park to be a popular destination for agritourism in Thailand. Best coffee and tea in Thailand tastes the best where they are sustainably grown.

Well connected by air, land and river, Chiang Rai is moving into the future with confidence to be a leader and an inspiration in the Greater Mekong Subregion. Chiang Rai Provicial Administrative Organization (CR PAO) is the largest local government responbile for the whole province and working closely with other 143 municipalities at a subdistrict level and stakeholders towards Sustainable Development Goals.
